Bio:

Umläb is a group formed from members of Moncton NB’s Les Païens. This new project is a mix of improvisation and composition that uses looping extensively, creating a mix of electro-rock-jazz soundscapes. The result is a broad creative space that emerges, providing a canvas for all four artists to collectively add or retract their musical elements at will in real time. This expanded creative universe welcomes spontaneous composition brought on by the “Umläb collective influence database” that has roots in 70’s prog-funk, late 90’s trip hop and house, post rock, math rock and clam rock.

Collectively, the members of Umläb have been part of the creative and diverse Moncton music scene dating back to the 1990’s. Collaborating with authors, poets, filmmakers, dancers and musicians of all genres has been a driving force behind their skills as instrumentalists and their keen ability to adapt to any creative situation. For 25 years, their contribution to Acadian music and culture as well as their influence on multiple generations with Les Païens or through their respective projects is undeniable. Umläb is the next chapter in this remarkable musical story that continues to seek new horizons.
